PASSAGE NEWCASTLE-UPON-TYNE FOR BOULOGNE. WAS TOWING TWO FRENCH LIGHTERS, NORD [550GT] & MADELEINE [158 GT], BOTH LADEN WITH COAL, WHEN SUNK BY GUNFIRE FROM GERMAN SUBMARINE UB 40. NORD [EX- J H MEAD] WAS SUNK, MADELEINE WAS LEFT ABLAZE AND SINKING BUT WAS RECOVERED. (WRECKSITE.EU)
