Circumstances of loss

BUILT IN 1961 BY BODEWES SCHPSW. 'VOLHARDING' NV, FOXHOL. PASSAGE PULA, YUGOSLAVIA FOR TRIPOLI. SANK 10M OFF CORFU. THE CREW MANAGED TO REACH CORFU IN LIFEBOATS, BUT THE CAPTAIN & CHIEF ENGINEER WERE ARRESTED & CHARGED WITH DELIBERATELY SCUTTLING THEIR VESSEL IN ORDER TO CLAIM THE INSURANCE. THEY CLAIMED THAT THE LOSS WAS DUE TO INGRESS OF WATER. (MSD).
