Circumstances of loss
VESSEL, BUILT BY CRAIG, TAYLOR & CO., LTD. [YARD NO.201], WAS ORIGINALLY LAID DOWN AS THE 'WAR FINCH (II)', COMPLETED IN OCTOBER 1918, BECOMING 'FORT DE SOUVILLE' IN 1919. IN DECEMBER 1942 THE VESSEL WAS SEIZED BY THE ITALIANS AND BECAME THE 'BENIVENTO'. A FEW MONTHS LATER THE VESSEL, ON PASSAGE NAPLES TO BIZERTA, WAS TORPEDOED BY MTB SOME 3M SW OF CANI ISLANDS. THE VESSEL WAS SUBSEQUENTLY BEACHED ON RAS ZEBIB AS A CTL. VESSEL DESCRIBED AS A B-TYPE 2-DECKER STANDARD SHIP. (BRITISH STANDARD SHIPS WWI VOL.3).
