Circumstances of loss
BUILT IN 1938 BY W PICKERSGILL & SONS. OWNED AT TIME OF LOSS BY ATLANTIC SHIPPING AND TRADING CO. PASSAGE UK FOR ARCHANGEL. STRUCK A REEF AND CAPSIZED OFF SOUTH CAPE, SPITZBERGEN. MASTER AND EIGHT OF CREW MANAGED TO REACH SHORE. CARGO INCLUDED: 3942 INGOTS TIN, 50 CASES NI PELLETS (SIC), 24 CASES SILVER STEEL, 14 CASES HARD METAL. (DODS & RISDON BEAZLEY). VESSEL WAS REPORTED TO HAVE BEACHED S OF SPITZBERGEN AFTER DAMAGE BY BOMBS OF A JU-88 OF II/K.G.30. THEN SHE WAS TORPEDOED BY U-625 AND AGAIN BOMBED BY A JU-88 FROM II/K.G.30.
