2.7.43 BUILT IN 1919 BY W.HAMILTON & CO. OWNED AT TIME OF LOSS BY MINISTRY OF WAR TRANSPORT (ANCHOR LINE). PASSAGE ALEXANDRIA FOR UK VIA TABLE BAY AND FREETOWN. TORPEDOED ON 2.7.43 BY U-618. SANK AFTER A SECOND TORPEDO ATTACK THE FOLLOWING DAY. CARGO INCLUDED MANGANESE, ALUMINIUM ORE, COTTON, TOBACCO AND MAIL. SIX CREW LOST. (LLOYDS WAR LOSSES WWII, DODS, AXIS SUBMARINE SUCCESSES 1939-45).
