Circumstances of loss

11.9.80 VESSEL EX- CLAN MACINDOE, BUILT 1959 BY JOHN BROWN & CO. (CLYDEBANK) LTD., CLYDEBANK. OWNED AT TIME OF LOSS BY GULF SHIPPING LINES LTD. VESSEL RAN AGROUND IN BASRAH AREA DURING EARLY SEPTEMBER 1980. SHE WAS REFLOATED AT BERTHED AT BASRAH IN 11.9.80. VESSEL WAS TRAPPED AT BASRAH WHEN IRAQI AUTHORITIES CLOSED SHATT AL ARAB DURING HOSITILITES OVER SOVEREIGNTY OF CHANNEL. VESSEL WAS SETTLED AS A TOTAL LOSS DUE TO HER DETAINMENT AND WAS SUBSEQUENTLY REPORTED IN 1993 TO BE LYING IN A SUNKEN CONDITION IN THE SHATT AL ARAB AT BASRAH. (MSD)
