17.4.40 BUILT IN 1929 BY W. GRAY & CO. WITH TRIPLE- EXPANSION ENGINES OF 529NHP. OWNED AT TIME OF LOSS BY SIR. R. ROPER & CO. LTD, (POOL SHIPPING). PASSAGE GLASGOW FOR CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS. STARTED VOYAGE IN CONVOY UNTIL 17.4.40. THEN SHE WAS INTERCEPTED, SHELLED & TORPEDOED UNTIL SHE SANK BY GERMAN RAIDER ORION. 17 LOST, REST OF CREW TAKEN AS PRISONERS OF WAR BUT LATER RESCUED IN THE TROPIC SEA. (WRECKSITE.EU, DODS & LLWW2)
