VESSEL, BUILT 1909 BY J L THOMPSON & SONS, MINED AND SUNK 10M E BY N OF ILE DE BAS WITH THE LOSS OF 24 LIVES. VESSEL WAS ON PASSAGE FROM BILBAO TO MIDDLESBOROUGH. OWNED AT THE TIME OF LOSS BY HENRY R JAMES SS CO. (DODS). VESSEL WAS TORPEDOED BY UC48 OFF THE BRITTANY COAST. THE SUBMARINE REMAINED UNDETECTED, HENCE THE ATTRIBUTION TO BEING MINED IN 'DODS' AND 'WW1 SL'. CONFIRMATION IN 'DER KREIG ZUR SEE'. (B BURKE).
