SANK FOLLOWING AN ACCIDENTAL EXPLOSIONS, ATTRIBUTED INITIALLY TO GASES GIVEN OFF BY PAINT IN PAINT STORE, THEN ANOTHER EXPLOSION IN THE VICINITY OF THE FORE MAGAZINE. 143 OFFICER AND MEN LOST, 12 SURVIVED.
