NCA. 12.9.97 UNDERWATER EXAMINATION REVEALS: 'ONLY ABOUT ONE METRE IS VISIBLE ABOVE THE MUDLINE AND IT IS ALL TORN AND TWISTED OUT OF SHAPE. STATE OF WK WAS SUCH THAT IT WOULD MAKE TRACING THE CAUSE OF THE SINKING VERY DIFFICULT. BOW BROKEN OFF - PROBABLY WHEN VESSEL HIT THE BOTTOM. SOME OF SIDE SHELL PLATING WAS MISSING. ALL THE HATCHES WERE OPEN AND THE HATCH COVERS REMOVED. (REPORT IN LL 5.9.97). NCA. HH310/590/01 20.11.97 REPORTED SUNK IN 585428N, 043904E [WGD]. (NORWAY NM 21/1088/97). 10.2.97 SANK RAPIDLY AFTER TAKING WATER IN HEAVY WEATHER. MAY HAVE HAD HOLE OR DAMAGE TO THE BOW. VESSEL HAD BEEN NOTED BY NORWEGIAN AUTHORITIES TO BE IN POOR CONDITION. CREW OF 20 MISSING, PRESUMED DROWNED. (LL, 10.2.97).
