(S SJOSTRAND, E-MAIL DTD 20.2.00). INS AS NDW. BR STD. HH517/730/02 4.9.01 HH517/730/02 4.9.01 DIVED IN 0320.17N, 10405.50E [WGD]. FOUND TO BE A MINESWEEPER BUILT WITH ALUMINIUM FRAMES AND TIMBER CLAD. LENGTH 158FT, WIDTH 28FT. ONE OF THE DIVERS SERVED ON A SIMILAR VESSEL IN THE 1960S AND CONFIRMS ITS TYPE. SUPERSTRUCTURE OF ALUMINIUM WITH ONLY ONE FUNNEL FOR DIESEL ENGINE AND LARGE AIR DUCT FWD OF THIS. HAS BEEN HEAVILY STRIPPED BEFORE SINKING AS ALL INTERAL FITTINGS, ENGINES, ANCHORS AND WINDLASSES REMOVED. SMALL LABEL RECOVERED FROM ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT BEARING THE NAME 'RCA', MADE IN ENGLAND AND DATED 1952. PROBABLY MALAYSIAN NAVY VESSEL USED AS TARGET. UPRIGHT WITH BOWS TOWARDS 170 DEGS. DEPTH 39-50MTRS. (V SKOGLIE, EMAIL DTD 26.6.02). NCA. HH517/730/02 17.5.02 HH517/730/02 17.5.02 PROBABLY THE 'MAHAMIRU'. HULL AND SUPERSTRUCTURE IS ALMOST IDENTICAL, BUT THE FRONT OF THE WHEELHOUSE IS DIFFERENT. IT HAS A ROW OF ROUND SCUTTLES AT THE HELMSMAN'S STATION AND THE BRIDGE ABOVE IS FITTED WITH SQUARE PLEXIGLASS WINDOWS RAKED BACK AT 45 DEGS, FWD AND SIDE ONLY. HT ABOVE SEABED IS ABOUT 11MTRS BUT IT WILL BE PARTLY EMBEDDED IN THE SAND TOO. MASTS HAVE BEEN PULLED OVER BY TRAWLER NETS. HAS 3 LARGE WINCHES ASTERN, SINGLE AND THEN TWO SLIGHTLY SMALLER ONES SIDE BY SIDE. THE STERN IS SHEATHED IN COPPER OR BRASS PLATING. BOLLARDS AND FAIRLEADS OF BRONZE ARE STILL IN PLACE.
