BUILT IN 1958 BY CHANTIERS NAVALE DE LA CIOTAT. OWNED AT TIME OF LOSS BY CAMPAGNIE DES MESSANERIES MARITIMES. PASSAGE NOUMEA FOR LE HAVRE. ENCOUNTERED VERY HEAVY WEATHER WHICH CAUSED CARGO TO BREAK LOOSE, RESULTING IN A 45 DEGREE LIST AND AN EXPLOSION ON BOARD. LATER SANK. 38 MEN LOST, 1 RECOVERED. (MSD).
