VESSEL, BUILT 1898 BY A. STEPHEN & SONS LTD. OWNED AT TIME OF LOSS BY ATLANTIC TRANSPORT CO. TRIPLE EXPANSION ENGINE OF 770 NHP FOR 13.5 KTS. ON PASSAGE FROM EGYPT FOR SALONIKA, CARRYING THE AMMUNITION COLUMN OF 29TH DIVISION & THE NEW ZEALAND STATIONARY HOSPITAL, WAS SIGHTED & TORPEDOED BY U-35 36M SOUTH OF SALONIKA. DID NOT SINK IMMEDIATELY & MANY ONBOARD WERE RESCUED BY BRITISH & FRENCH PATROL BOATS. TOTAL LOSS OF LIFE WAS 128 INCLUDING 11 NURSES, 88 TROOPS & 29 CREW. (DODS).
