Circumstances of loss
BUILT IN 1976 BY OSAKA ZOSENSHO, KIZUGAWA. OWNED AT TIME OF LOSS BY THE TRUST TERRITORY OF THE PACIFIC ISLANDS. WAS IN BALLAST AND IN THE COURSE OF BEACHING AT JEMO ISLAND, WHILST ON A FIELD TRIP TO ASCERTAIN THE DAMAGE CAUSED BY HIGH WAVES WHICH STRUCK THE MARSHALL ISLANDS IN 11.1979. A SUDDEN CURRENT DRAGGED HER OFF COURSE AND ONTO THE REEFS. SEVERAL SALVAGE ATTEMPTS FAILED. DECLARED CTL. (MSD).
