BUILT 1944 BY JOHN COCKERILL. AFTER SAILING FROM DAKAR, EN ROUTE FROM MATADI TO LEGHORN, RAN AGROUND AT FULL SPEED ON CHAUSSEE DES ALMADIES ROCKS, NEAR CAP VERTE. HOLDS 1,2 & 3 WERE IMMEDIATELY FLOODED. AFTER FURTHER DETERIORATION FROM CONTINUOUS POUNDING OF THE SEA THE WRECK WAS DECLARED CTL. OWNED AT TIME OF LOSS BY OVERSEAS FREIGHT SHIPPING CO. (MSD)
