H3409/70 22.9.70 IT HAS BEEN SUGGESTED THAT THE WRECK LIES IN 515436N, 051754W (POSN OF GLENISLA) AND THAT GLENISLA LIES IN POSN OF THIS WRECK. (P O HODGES RN, LTR DTD 10.8.70). H4919/77 29.12.77 POSN AMENDED FROM 515415N, 051839W (GLENISLA - POSSIBLY). THIS IS NOW DEFINITELY THE NIMROD. MR E. GILES HAS THE SHIP'S BELL. THE PADDLES ARE ON SITE & CROCKERY & CUTLERY WITH THE NAME ON IT. ORIGINAL INFO FROM S MORTIMER, ST DAVIDS. (E GILES, 11.12.77). H1950/80 12.1.82 NOT FOUND NOR SPECIALLY LOOKED FOR. (HMS FOX, HI 20). NCA. HH100/351/10 9.11.95 WELL BROKEN UP AND LIES IN THREE LOCATIONS IN THE COVE. MOST PROMINENT SITE HAS CONDENSERS. THESE RISE 2.5MTRS ABOVE SEABED AND FORM A LARGE METAL CAGE. MUCH DEBRIS ABOUT THE SITE. ENGINE AND REMAINS OF PADDLES LIE IN DEEP GULLY ON THE EDGE OF THE COVE. (R M JONES). 18.4.13 LIES IN TWO PARTS. BOW SECTION LIES IN 5154.613N, 0517.954W [WGD] AND IS FLAT TO THE SEABED. STERN LIES IN 5154.587N, 0518.081W AND IS FULLY BROKEN UP. (DIVER MAGAZINE, MAY 2013). Circumstances of loss
25.2.1860 BUILT IN 1843 BY T VERNON & SON, LIVERPOOL. OWNED AT TIME OF LOSS BY THE CORK STEAMSHIP COMPANY. TWO BOILERS, SIDE-VALVE ENGINE OF 300 NHP, PADDLE PROPULSION. PASSAGE LIVERPOOL FOR CORK ON 25.2.1860. ENGINES FAILED IN THE IRISH SEA ON 27TH, PASSAGE CONTINUED UNDER SAIL BUT LATER WAS DRIVEN ON THE ROCKS OFF ST DAVIDS HEAD AND BECAME A TOTAL LOSS. ALL 45 PERSONS ON BOARD WERE DROWNED. CAPTAIN REFUSED ASSISTANCE FROM SS CITY OF PARIS. (DODS & LLOYDS).
