Circumstances of loss

26.1.1854 BUILT IN 1853. ONE BOILER, COMPOUND EXPANSION ENGINE, SINGLE SHAFT. PASSAGE LIVERPOOL FOR BRAZIL. LOST 26.1.1854 WITH A CARGO VALUED AT �50,000 & WITH 20 PASSENGERS ON BOARD. AT TIME OF LOSS THE OLINDA WAS 9 MONTHS OLD AND VALUED AT �35,000. DUE TO HEAVY WEATHER PILOT WAS UNABLE TO DISEMBARK AND HER ON THE LANDWARD SIDE OF THE SKERRIES BUT RAN ON TO HARRY'S FURLONG AT 8.45PM AND SUFFERED SERIOUS DAMAGE TO STBD BOW. THE WIND TURNED HER 180 DEGS AND SHE SUFFERED FURTHER DAMAGE. ALL PASSENGERS WERE TAKEN OFF AND CREW WADED ASHORE. ONLY THE MAIL AND A FEW VALUABLE ITEMS SAVED. ABANDONED AS CTL AND SOLD FOR �1390. (SIBI & SHIPWRECKS OF NORTH WALES).
