Circumstances of loss
27.10.1942 BUILT FEB 1920 BY BARCLAY, CURLE & CO. PASSAGE ROSARIO & FREETOWN FOR LIVERPOOL. WAS ATTACKED AND TORPEDOED BY GERMAN SUBMARINE U-509 ON 27.10.1942 NW OF THE CANARY ISLES, LATER BEING SEEN LOW IN THE WATER AND PRESUMED TO HAVE SUNK ON 30.10.1942. ALL 86 CREW AND 11 GUNNERS WERE SAVED. (BRITISH STANDARD SHIPS WWI VOL.3, LL WAR LOSSES WWII, AXIS SUBMARINE SUCCESSES 1939-45).
