Circumstances of loss
VESSEL HAD BEEN WAITING OFF COLUMBO FOR REPAIRS SINCE 11.1998. HAD 14 FOOT LONG CRACK IN HULL WHICH HAD NOT BEEN PROPERLY REPAIRED. CONSIDERED THAT ENGINE VIBRATIONS WHILST UNDERWAY CAUSED THE CRACK TO WIDEN AND LET IN WATER. CREW OF 16 RESCUED BY A TUG SENT FROM COLUMBO. ORIGINAL PASSAGE DURBAN (9.1998) FOR POHANG. VESSEL BUILT IN 1971.
