EXCELLENT SONAR TARGET WITH UPPERDECK DETAILS VISIBLE ON DCS3. STRONG MAGNETIC ANOMALY. BR STD. 8.12.98 COULD POSSIBLY BE 'ADC 527'. (A CORKILL). HH100/351/17 10.8.01 DIVED IN 5442.210N, 0400.871W [WGD] USING GPS. LIES ON A SOFT, SILTY SEABED. FOUND TO BE A VERY OLD SS, WELL BROKEN, WITH SOME FISHING NET COVERAGE. THERE WAS MUCH COAL SCATTERED AROUND, SUGGESTING THAT THIS WAS THE CARGO. POOR VISIBILITY AND NETS PRECLUDED A FULLER INVESTIGATION. WRECKAGE AND CARGO LOOK CONSISTENT WITH 'RIVERSIDE'. Circumstances of loss

BUILT IN 1899. OWNED AT TIME OF LOSS BY J SHIELS OF BELFAST. SINGLE BOILER, TRIPLE EXPANSION ENGINE, SINGLE SHAFT. PASSAGE MARYPORT FOR STRANGFORD LOUGH. LEFT MARYPORT WITH 5 CREW UNDER COMMAND OF CAPTAIN WILLIAM MCKIBBIN. TOOK WATER IN HOLD IN FRESHENING N TO NW WIND. WIND LATER INCREASED TO STORM FORCE AND VESSEL TOOK DECIDED LIST. BEGAN TO SETTLE WHEN 6 MILES SE OF BURROW HEAD. CREW ABANDONED THE VESSEL BUT TOOK AN HOUR TO GET THE BOAT AWAY. CREW RESCUED BY ISLE OF WHITHORN LIFEBOAT.
