SINKING POSN WAS REPORTED AS CORSEWALL PT BRG 067 DEGS (T), 4 MILES. (P C MILLER, 6.11.82). H1310/84/30 5.9.84 DIVED ON SEVERAL TIMES AND CONFIRMED AS WK OF THE ROWAN. IT LIES INTACT, UPRIGHT AND IN GOOD CONDITION. (M ROWLEY, 28.8.84). HH100/351/01 23.10.89 CONFIRMED AS ROWAN - BELL RECOVERED. (M R ROWLEY, 17.9.89). 15.1.08 CONFIRMED AS BEING UPRIGHT AND LARGELY INTACT. DAMAGE TO STBD SIDE WHICH WOULD CONFIRM COLLISION AS THE CAUSE OF SINKING AND THE BRIDGE HAS COLLAPSED. Circumstances of loss
BUILT IN 1909 BY D & W HENDERSON & CO LTD. OWNED AT TIME OF LOSS BY LAIRD LINE LTD. FOUR BOILERS, TRIPLE EXPANSION ENGINE, OF 525 NHP, SINGLE SHAFT. PASSAGE GLASGOW FOR DUBLIN. RAN INTO THICK FOG AND WAS STRUCK BY SS WEST CAMAK (5721 GT), WHICH CONTINUED WITHOUT STOPPING. CREW AND PASSENGERS WERE MUSTERED ON THE UPPER DECK IN LIFEJACKETS WHEN SS CLAN MALCOLM APPEARD (6000 GT) AND DROVE INTO ROWAN'S STBD SIDE. ENGINE AND BOILER ROOM FLOODED AND VESSEL SANK. 13 CREW AND 2 PASSENGERS LOST. (SIBI).
