Circumstances of loss
EX- POLYANNA '55, EX- TORDENE '47. BUILT 1936 BY W GRAY & CO LTD., HARTLEPOOL WITH 3 CYLINDER TRIPLE EXPANSION ENGINE, 2 BOILERS, SINGLE SHAFT. MACHINERY BY CENTRAL MARINE ENG. WORKS LTD, HARTLEPOOL. OWNED AT TIME OF LOSS BY KALLSTROM, RAGNAR, STOCKHOLM. ON PASSAGE LULEA, SWEDEN TO BARROW-IN-FURNESS. (SIBI) ON ENTERING BARROW IN FURNESS, HOVE TO IN WALNEY CHANNEL TO ALLOW AN EXITING SUBMARINE TO PASS. WENT AGROUND AND BROKE BACK ON FALLING TIDE. AFTER SECTION WAS REFLOATED AND BROKEN UP. FORWARD SECTION WAS CUT UP IN SITU AND PARTIALLY REMOVED. THAT REMAINING WAS DISPERSED USING EXPLOSIVES.
