BUILT IN 1964 BY AUKRA BRUK A/S. OWNED AT TIME OF LOSS BY HELGA SHIPPING CO LTD. EX LANGLAND 1989, EX MAELIFELL 1985. BELIEVED TO HAVE FOUNDERED IN BAY OF BISCAY WHILE ON PASSAGE TO SHARPNESS. VESSEL WAS LOADED WITH 2400TONS CEMENT. 18.3.97 VESSEL WAS OVERLOADED BY 300TONS. LOSS MAY BE DUE TO OVERLOAD AND INSUFFICIENT BALLAST, WATER ENTRY INTO THE DOUBLE BOTTOM OR UNFORSEEABLE TENSIONS IN THE HULL AFTER CONVERSION INTO A CEMENT CARRIER. (LL 18.3.97).
