Circumstances of loss
BUILT 1957 BY J REDHEAD & SONS WITH OIL ENGINES. OWNED AT TIME OF LOSS BY F.C STRICK & CO. PASSAGE LIVERPOOL FOR KHORRAMSHAHR WITH GENERAL CARGO INCLUDING 175TONS OF GELIGNITE & DETONATORS. FIRE BROKE OUT & SHIP PUT INTO BAHRAIN ON 17 FEB 1958. 80 TONS OF GELIGNITE WERE UNLOADED BUT REMAINDER EXPLODED DESTROYING AFT OF SHIP & MOST OF SUPERSTRUCTURE & THE TUG SUHAIL WHICH WAS LYING ALONGSIDE. 62 LIVES WERE LOST IN TOTAL.
