Circumstances of loss

27.6.03 VESSEL WAS A LOCALLY BUILT, KENYAN GOVERNMENT, DEPT OF FISHERIES TRAWLER. SPRANG A LEAK WHEN LOADED WITH PRAWNS AND FISH. VESSEL WAS BEACHED BUT LATER SLID OFF REEF INTO 12MTRS OF WATER. AN INVESTIGATION INTO LOSS CONCLUDED THAT THE VESSEL WAS UNSEAWORTHY. (KEVIN PATIENCE, TELECON 27.6.03) BUILT BY AFRICAN & GENERAL ENGINEERING CO., MOMBASA IN 1969, WITH KELVIN 8 CYLINDER DIESEL ENGINE OF 320HP. (SHIPWRECKS & SALVAGE ON THE E AFRICAN COAST, K PATIENCE)
