Circumstances of loss

BUILT IN 1856 IN GLASGOW. OWNED AT TIME OF LOSS BY BURNS & MCIVER. COMPOUND EXPANSION ENGINE, SINGLE SHAFT. PASSAGE LE HAVRE FOR LIVERPOOL. STRUCK THE MAENHEERE ROCK OFF LIZARD AND LIMPED INTO MOUNTS BAY WHERE SHE FINALLY BEACHED ON THE NORTH WEST TIP OF GEW GRAZE. LATER DURING THE NIGHT A HEAVY SWELL BROKE HER IN TWO. THE WRECK WAS SALVAGED IN LATER YEARS AND ALL THAT IS LEFT NOW IS A BOILER AND SOME IRON PLATING. NO LIVES LOST. CARGO INCLUDED 600 BAGS OF FLOUR, A QUANTITY OF SUGAR AND SPIRITS, WINES SILKS AND OTHER MERCHANDISE. (CORNISH SHIPWRECKS & SIBI).
