Circumstances of loss

31.10.81 VESSEL, BUILT 1964, WAS ON PASSAGE FROM TAMPA TO GEORGETOWN WHEN SHE STRUCK A SUBMERGED OBJECT, BELIEVED TO BE THE WRECK OF WITSHOAL II [SEE WRECK RECORD NO 131100968] APPROX 7M OFF GEORGETOWN ON 31.10.81. AFTER CARGO OF POTASH HAD BEEN UNLOADED/JETTISONED VESSEL ENTERED GEORGETOWN FOR REPAIRS. ON LEAVING PORT SHE WAS FOUND TO HAVE SERIOUS BOTTOM DAMAGE & WAS DECLARED A CONSTRUCTIVE TOTAL LOSS. PROCEEDED TO PORT CASTRIES, FROM WHERE SHE WAS LATER TOWED OUT TO SEA & SCUTTLED IN JULY 1983. OWNED AT TIME OF LOSS BY KIM-SAIL LTD. (LL, 20.8.83 & MSD).
