PASSAGE MIDDLESBROUGH & OBAN FOR NEW YORK & MACORIS IN CONVOY, WAS EVENTUALLY SUNK BY GUNFIRE FROM U-628, AFTER AN INITIAL ATTACK BY U-538 AND SUBSEQUENT FAILED ATTEMPT TO SINK BY TORPEDO FROM ESCORT HMS LOOSESTRIFE. (LLOYDS WAR LOSSES WWII, WSS VOL.3, DODS, AXIS SUBMARINE SUCCESSES 1939-45).
