SUPERSTRUCTURE STILL INTACT AND IN GOOD CONDITION. IT LOOKS LIKE A MODERN WRECK, POSSIBLY AFTER WWII. PROPELLERS HAVE BEEN REMOVED. (B HICKINBOTTOM). Circumstances of loss

BUILT IN 1903 BY GOURLAY BROS. OWNED AT TIME OF LOSS BY THE GREAT EASTERN RAILWAY CO. TRIPLE EXPANSION ENGINE OF 202NHP FOR 14 KNOTS. PASSAGE ROTTERDAM FOR HARWICH. SAILED AT 1030 WITH CREW OF 20 AND 433 TONS OF CARGO. THE DECK CARGO WAS SAID TO BE VERY HEAVY AND AMONGST OTHER ITEMS WERE THREE 3 TON PANTECHNICON VANS FILLED WITH FURNITURE. AT ABOUT 1700 WAS OBSERVED BY THE GABBARD LIGHTSHIP TO BE ROLLING HEAVILY. SHE WAS SEEN TO ROLL TWO OR THREE TIMES AND THEN DISAPPEARED FROM SIGHT. SS VIENNA MADE A SEARCH BUT ONLY LOCATED FLOATING CASES OF MEAT. THE CRUISER HMS BLAKE RECOVERED ONE BODY IN A LIFEBUOY MARKED 'YARMOUTH, HARWICH' AND SIGHTED ONE OF THE VANS. IT WAS ASSUMED THAT THE SHIP WAS LOST WITH ALL HANDS. (DODS).
