EVENTUALLY CUT IN TWO UNDERWATER, AFTER UNSUCCESSFUL INITIAL SALVAGE ATTEMPT AND LIFTED IN TWO PARTS. BUOYAGE WITHDRAWN. (LL & NETH CG, TLX 9.8.88). AMEND LIFT. NCA.

17.6.88 BUILT IN 1976 BY HEINRICH BRAND SCHIFFSWERFT GMBH & CO, K G, OLDENBERG. OWNED AT TIME OF LOSS BY GEBG BRORE B V. PASSAGE ROTTERDAM FOR GRANGEMOUTH. SANK FOLLOWING A HEAVY COLLISION WITH SWEDISH RO-RO/CONTAINER/VEHICLE CARRIER ATLANTIC COMPASS. TWO LIVES LOST. CARRYING CARGO OF EXPLOSIVE AND HIGHLY TOXIC CHEMICALS: 550 TONNES ACRYLONITRILE AND 800 TONNES DODECYLBENZENE. LIFTED 17.6.88 BUT NEXT DAY TWO ROPES BROKE AND SHE WAS LOWERED TO THE SEABED. SUBSEQUENTLY CUT INTO TWO PARTS AND LIFTED IN AUGUST 1988. (MSD).
