(FL/LT RAY, RAF SUB AQUA CLUB, 5.9.72). AMENDED TO USC 28MTRS IN REVISED POSN. BR STD. H2568/71 18.10.72 ACTING UPON LOCAL INFORMATION SURVEY PARTY LOCATED WRECK IN 495516N, 062336W. LEAST E/S DEPTH 36MTRS IN GEN DEPTH 40MTRS. (HMS HECATE, R-OF-S 3.8.72). AMENDED TO WK 36MTRS IN REVISED POSN. BR STD. H2568/71 14.11.73 DIVED ON BY MR COWAN & ALMOST CERTAINLY 'ARDENCRAIG' AND NOT 'TOLEDO' WHICH REMAINS UNDISCOVERED, PROBABLY CLOSER TO STEEPLE ROCK. (HMS HECATE, R-OF-S APPENDIX 2, 16.7.73). H3227/74 6.6.74 LOCATED WITH MAGNETOMETER/DECCA & DIVED ON. IDENTIFIED AS SAILING VESSEL SO CONFIRMED 'ARDENCRAIG' & NOT 'TOLEDO'. TANGLE OF GIRDERS STEEL PLATES CHAIN & REMAINS OF LARGE MASTS WHICH LOOK LIKE PROP SHAFTS APPEARS TO STAND UP 7FT OFF SEABED. (MR GILES, 15.5.74).

BUILT IN 1886 BY RUSSELL & CO. LTD., STRUCK THE CRIM ROCKS IN THICK FOG WHILST EN ROUTE FROM MELBOURNE TO CALAIS. AFTER LIFTING OFF THE ROCKS AND DRIFTING SHE EVENTUALLY SANK IN BROAD SOUND. (SHIPWRECK INDEX OF THE BRITISH ISLES).
