| Surveying Details | 02.07.24 In 2017 an Isles of Scilly based scuba diver discovered a new shipwreck site while searching for the remains of the English East Indiaman Phoenix, which was lost on the Isles of Scilly in 1680. The diver recovered a significant quantity of material from the wreck site.In 2021, Historic England received notification of a recently discovered wooden shipwreck site. The features, which include several damaged iron cannon, believed to be kentledge ballast, as well as ship timbers and aconsiderable quantity of small finds, are not associated with any pre-existing NRHE records or UKHO wreck records, suggesting that this is a newly discovered wreck site. Historic England subsequently commissionedWessex Archaeology to undertake diving fieldwork and to prepare an undesignated site assessment for the site.
