HULL FAIRLY INTACT BUT APPEARS TO HAVE COLLISION DAMAGE SLIGHTLY AFT OF AMIDSHIPS ON STBD SIDE. NO SIGN OF CARGO. BELL RECOVERED BEARING NAME 'BENGOLLYUN'. (K HURLEY, 22.7.93). Circumstances of loss

4.9.93 BUILT 1862 AT WEST HARTLEPOOL. OWNED BY MCKINNON, LIVERPOOL. ENTRY IN LLOYDS LIST CEASED 1871-72. (K HURLEY, 4.9.93). 20.3.1889 SAILED FROM LIVERPOOL FOR INQUIQUE ON 20.3.1889, BUT WRECKAGE CONSISTING OF BOXES OF CANDLES, A SAILOR'S CHEST AND A BOT WITH 'BENGOLLYUN LONDON' ON IT WAS WASHED ASHORE AT CEMLYM BAY, ANGLESEY. THE SHIP WAS TOWED BY THE TUG 'CRUISER' TO A POINT 4M OUTSIDE THE BAR LIGHTSHIP AND THEN DISCHARGED AT 4.30PM. THE SAME EVENING THERE WAS A VIOLENT STORM AND SHE FOUNDERED. (K HURLEY).
