Circumstances of loss
Positional Analysis: The convoy report (TNAADM 137/1362) and survivors report for EARL OF ELGIN (TNA ADM 137/2963) both give positions whichplot within 3nm ofthis wreck. UC75's KTB does not give a position for its attack, but it is clear that it took place in the Caernarfon Bay area.Archival Analysis: The ship was torpedoed aft on the starboard side and sank by the stern (TNA ADM/1362). This is consistent with a notable areaof damage seen on the wreck aft. Sank in four minutes and was heading NE at the time of the torpedo hit. The wreck points NE.
