BUILT IN 1938 BY SWAN HUNTER, WIGHAM RICHARDSON. 3-DRUM BOILERS, TURBINE ENGINES OF 80,000 SHP FOR 32.5 KNOTS. 12 X 6 INC, 12 X 4 INCH, 4 X 3 POUNDER AND 16 SMALLER GUNS. 6 TORPEDO TUBES. 4 AIRCRAFT. WAS ENGAGED IN CONVOY DUTIES ON MURMANSK ROUTE WHEN SHE WAS DISABLED BY A TORPEDO ATTACK FROM U-456. TAKEN IN TOW BUT DUE TO BAD WEATHER TOW WAS BROKEN. EDINBURGH WAS FUTHER ATTACKED BY TORPEDO FROM GERMAN SUBMARINES & DESTROYERS TWO DAYS LATER & WAS FINALLY SUNK BY HMS FORESIGHT. 57 MEN LOST. (DODS, WW2SL & AXIS SUBMARINE SUCCESSES).
