THIS PART IS UPRIGHT AND TERMINATES IN A SINGLE BOILER BEYOND WHICH THE BOW SECTION IS DETACHED AND COLLAPSED. SHELLS OF APPROX 20MM CALIBRE WERE SEEN. A WALKER CHERUB III SHIP'S LOG WAS RECOVERED. THE SERIAL NUMBER INDICATED THAT THIS HAD BEEN ASSEMBLED FOR THE ADMIRALTY ON 12.12.1942. (N R CHIPCHASE, 8.10.97). NCA. HH100/351/13 10.9.98 IDENTIFIED BY MINESWEEPING GEAR AND UNIQUE HULL FEATURES. BUILT IN 1932 BY SMITH'S DOCK CO, MIDDLESBOROUGH AS 'KOS XVII'. CREWED BY THE ROYAL NORWERIAN NAVY. TRIPLE EXPANSION ENGINES FOR 12 KNOTS. REQUISITIONED AS A MINESWEEPER IN 1940. BOW MOUNTED 37MM AND 20MM GUNS. TORPEDOED BY E-BOATS OF THE 5TH FLOTILLA WHILST ESCORTING CONVOY WP 300. ALSO LOST WERE THE MV MODAVIA, HMS LORD HAILSHAM AND LCT 381. (N R CHIPCHASE).
