Circumstances of loss
BUILT IN 1936 BY CAMMELL LAIRD, BIRKENHEAD. ORIGINALLY NUMBERED AS 'I.O2' UNTIL JUNE 1940, AS A FLOTILLA LEADER. WAS SUNK OFF ANZIO BY HS 293A GLIDER BOMB, WHEN TAKING PART IN OPERATIONS IN SUPPORT OF THE FIFTH ARMY. ONE OFFICER & 34 RATINGS WERE LOST, 157 MEN WERE RESCUED. (DODS, BVLAS 1939-45 & BRITISH FLEET & ESCORT DESTROYERS VOL.1).
