Circumstances of loss
BUILT IN 1940 BY VICKERS-ARMSTRONG. THREE DRUM BOILERS, TURBINE ENGINES OF 19,000 SHP FOR 27.5 KNOTS. THE VESSEL WAS PART OF A CONVOY OF SEVEN ENGAGED IN AN OFFENSIVE SWEEP OFF THE FRENCH COAST BETWEEN USHANT AND THE CHANNEL ISLANDS. RAN INTO AN ENEMY FORCE OF TORPDEO BOATS IN POOR VISIBILITY. WAS TORPEDOED AND RENDERED USELESS. LATER SCUTTLED. 42 MEN LOST. (DODS).
