Circumstances of loss
BUILT IN 1940 BY CAMMELL LAIRD. THREE DRUM BOILERS, TURBINE ENGINES OF 62,000 SHP FOR 33 KNOTS. TEN 5.25 INCH GUNS. WAS PART OF A CONVOY OF SEVEN ENGAGED IN AN OFFENSIVE SWEEP OFF THE FRENCH COAST BETWEEN USHANT AND THE CHANNEL ISLANDS. RAN INTO A FORCE OF ENEMY TORPEDO BOATS IN POOR VISIBILITY. STRUCK TWICE ON THE PORT SIDE. TURNED OVER AND SANK BY THE STERN. 462 MEN LOST. 107 MEN RECOVERED. (DODS).
