TIMBERS, COPPER SHEATHING, KNEES SUPPORTING GUNDECK & THE TILLER HAVE BEEN LOCATED. (SQDN LDR C R TEBBS, RAF SAA, EXPEDITION REPORT). CHART AS NDWPA. BR STD. HH100/351/21 21.5.04 LOCATED AND DIVED IN 0754.614S, 1424.275W [WGD] USING GPS. LIES 030/210DEGS, WITH BOWS AGAINST ROCKS IN GEN DEPTH 1MTR. STERN IN 9MTRS. MUCH OF WK IS BURIED, HOWEVER LOTS OF COPPER PINS AND IRON STRUCTURE REMAINS. CANNON BALLS AND HANGING KNEES LIE AMONGST THE WRECKAGE, TOGETHER WITH LOTS OF RIGGING. BUILT IN 1840 AS A SERINGAPATAM CLASS FRIGATE (5TH CLASS, 38 GUNS). FINISHED LIFE AS A STORE SHIP OFF ASCENSION ISLAND REPLACING HMS TORTOISE. PRESUMABLY SANK WHILE AT ANCHOR. KNOWN LOCALLY AS THE 'AFRICA WRECK'.
