Circumstances of loss

SCUTTLED AFTER SEVERE DAMAGE. DEPTH CHARGED UNITS OF GERMAN 1ST MINESWEEPER FLOTILLA WHILE ON PATROL IN HELIGOLAND BIGHT. ORIGINALLY THOUGHT TO HAVE STRUCK A MINE BUT GERMAN RECORDS SHOW THAT IT WAS PROBABLY SUNK BY THE 1ST MINESWEEPER FLOTILLA. THE FLOTILLA ATTACKED A SUBMARINE IN 501900N, 073000E. ENGINE NOISE CEASED AFTER 18 DEPTH CHARGES WERE DROPPED. HEAVY SEAS MEANT NO OIL OR WRECKAGE COULD BE SITED. (LT JOHN W FLEMING).
