Circumstances of loss
BUILT IN 1964 BY LITHGOWS LTD, PORT GLASGOW. OWNED AT TIME OF LOSS BY BROTHERHOOD CIA NAV SA. WHILST LOADING 220000-BARREL CARGO AT THE CABINDA GULF OIL COMPANY TERMINAL, MALONGO, EXPLODED AND CAUGHT FIRE. WAS ABANDONED AND LATER TOWED OUT TO SEA WHERE FURTHER EXPLOSIONS CAUSED THE VESSEL TO LIST AND EVENTUALLY SINK NW OF POINTE NOIRE. LOSS OF LIFE OCCURED AND ENORMOUS AMOUNT OF OIL DISCHARGED DURING COURSE OF ACCIDENT. (MSD).
