BUILT 1974 BY MITSUBISHI HEAVY INDUSTRIES LTD, YOKOHAMA. OWNED AT TIME OF LOSS BY GARDENIA CIA. NAV., S.A. VESSEL HAD COMPLETED DISCHARGE OF 95,000TONS CRUDE OIL INTO A PIPELINE TO A LOCAL REFINERY ON PULAU AYER CHAWAN ISLAND, WHEN SHE WAS STRUCK BY LIGHTNING DURING A SEVERE STORM, RESULTING IN FIRES AND EXPLOSIONS ON BOARD. VESSEL BROKE INTO 3 PARTS. AFTER EXTENSIVE SALVAGE VESSEL WAS REFLOATED & BEACHED OFF PULO SAKRA, WHERESHE WAS CUT UP FOR SCRAP. 7 CREW INJURED. (MSD)
