BUILT 1953 BY SCHULTE & BRUNS, EMDEN. OWNED AT TIME OF LOSS BY JASON MARITIME CO. LTD. PASSAGE FROM VALENCIA TO RAVENNA. SUSTAINED SEVERE DAMAGE AFTER AN EXPLOSION OCCURED IN ENGINE ROOM. A FIRE SUBSEQUENTLY FOLLOWED WHICH COULD NOT BE CONTROLLED. VESSEL DRIFTED ONTO ROCKS OFF CALA DEL LLEO AND PARTIALLY SANK. CREW ABANDONED SHIP AND 4 FURTHER EXPLOSIONS OCCURRED, PRESUMABLY IN FUEL TANKS. DECLARED A CONSTRUCTIVE TOTAL LOSS. ALL CREW SAFE. (MSD).
