3.10.79 SUNK IN SUDA BAY. (LLOYDS VOL.238). NCA, POSN 352921N, 240503E APPROX FOR FILING ONLY. 2.4.92 THERE IS NO WRECKAGE AS SUCH IN SUDA BAY. VESSEL LITERALLY DISINTEGRATED, PIECES OF WRECKAGE FOUND MILES INLAND. (LLOYDS VOL.239).

Circumstances of loss

VESSEL, ON PASSAGE FROM PIRAEUS FOR SUDA. BLEW UP & SANK WHILE UNLOADING BOTTLES OF LIQUID GAS AT SUDA BAY. EXPLOSION THOUGHT TO BE CAUSED BY A FIRE IN THE ENGINE-ROOM. MANY HOUSES, SHOPS & CARS DAMAGED. MORE THAN 140 PEOPLE INJURED. NO TRACE OF THE SIX MAN CREW. SUDA BAY DECLARED TO BE IN A STATE OF EMERGENCY. VESSEL LITERALLY DISINTEGRATED, PIECES OF WRECKAGE FOUND MILES INLAND. (LLOYDS VOLS.238 & 239).
