VESSEL RADIOED MAYDAY, REPORTING OUTBREAK OF DENSE SMOKE BUT NO FLAMES ON BOARD, WHILST EN ROUTE CHERBOURG TO NEEDLES. VESSEL LATER REPORTED TO BE ON FIRE AT 1516 GMT, BY MV 'CABO SAN ROQUE'. AT 1530 GMT, VESSEL REPORTED TO HAVE SUNK. (LLOYDS 221/75).
