Circumstances of loss

VESSEL, BUILT 1953, BROKE IN TWO 14M OFFVTHE VIGO COAST WHILE ON PASSAGE FROM VENEZUALA TO KILLINGHOLME. THE TWO SECTIONS DRIFTED APART & WERE LOCATED NEARLY 50M APART. THE FOREPART, CONTAINING 12000TONS OF OIL, WAS DELIBERATELY SHELLED & SUNK BY SPANISH FRIGATE 'JUPITER' 45M W OF CAPE FINISTERRE BECAUSE IT WAS CONSIDERED A DANGER TO NAVIGATION. THE AFTERPART WAS TAKEN IN TOW BY THE TUG 'PACIFIC' BUT SANK IN 422400N, 093200W. OWNED AT THE TIME OF LOSS BY MARCOSTA CIA NAV. (MSD).
