CRIPPLED BY FIRE AND A VERY POWERFUL EXPLOSION. 3 CREW KILLED IN THE BLAZE, THE REST OF THE CREW WERE SAFELY RESCUED. WAS TAKEN IN TOW BUT LATER SANK. REPORTED AS 'YANKEE' CLASS NUCLEAR-POWERED SUBMARINE. (LL 266).
