Circumstances of loss

6.12.44 ON 6.12.44 U775 TORPEDOED HMS BULLEN. HMS LOCH INCH AND HMS GOODALL CARRIED OUT A SERIES OF ATTACKS WHICH BROUGHT WOODEN WRECKAGE AND OIL TO THE SURFACE. AIRCRAFT WERE ORDERED TO SEARCH THE AREA. LATER THAT AFTERNOON A SUNDERLAND SIGHTED A PERISCOPE WAKE AND STRADDLED IT WITH A STICK OF DEPTH CHARGES. U 297 WAS SUNK, U775 HAVING ESCAPED.
