LAID DOWN AS WAR AGATE, BUILT IN 1918 BY COLUMBIA RIVER SHIPBUILDING CO. PORTLAND, OREGON. PASSAGE NEW YORK FOR BORDEAUX. OWNED AT TIME OF LOSS BY US NAVY. AFTER HER STEERING GEAR JAMMED SHE WAS IN A COLLISON WITH THE AMERICA, ANOTHER NAVY CARGO SHIP & SUNK. 7 CREW LOST THEIR LIVES. (INTERNET)
